The Santa Cruz City Council has announced various traffic restrictions starting this Sunday due to the closure of roads and elimination of on-street parking, in celebration of the “Car-Free Day”. This will take place on Avenida de Anaga from 08:00 to 15:00. Additionally, there will be restrictions on Monday on Calvo Sotelo Street from 16:00 until 08:00 on Tuesday because of the filming of the feature film ‘Bajo el Volcán 2’. Only residents with garage access will be permitted in this area.
On Sunday, as part of the ‘Car-Free Day’ from 10:00 to 13:00, the section of the Avenida Marítima between the Turboglorieta de Hacienda (at the junction with Avenida San Sebastián) and the tunnel of Vía Litoral will be closed. The Avenida Francisco la Roche (Avenida de Anaga) will also be closed between Avenida Marítima/tunnel of Vía Litoral and Rambla de Santa Cruz. Security bollards will be raised along this avenue to enhance event safety.
Event Activities
The event will feature Zone 1 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which will include facilities for wheel skills exercises, located between numbers 33 and 37 on Avenida Anaga. It will comprise a skills circuit, a pump track with various elevation and slope features, and other areas for small bicycles, skates, and scooters. Zone 2 will offer activities run by the Insular Tennis Federation at number 33 of the same avenue, featuring two or three courts. Zone 3 will be a skating area situated between numbers 24 and 32 of the avenue, and Zone 4, known as the Sports Complex, will be between the tunnel exit and number 23 of the avenue, as specified by the City Council in a press release.
Due to this event, the tunnel on Vía Litoral will be closed, and right turns from Rambla de Santa Cruz onto Avenida Francisco la Roche (Avenida de Anaga) will be prohibited. Furthermore, right turns from República Honduras Street onto the avenue will also be disabled. Consequently, all on-street parking in the area of Avenida de Anaga (between the Vía Litoral tunnel exit and República de Honduras Street) will be suspended from 06:00 to 15:00.
For alternative routes to access the affected neighbourhoods of Anaga and Playa de Las Teresitas, motorists are advised to use the following directions: towards San Andrés via Avenida Marítima, Avenida San Sebastián, Bravo Murillo, Plaza de España, and La Marina, or via the inner pier and the Ramblas, using Reyes Católicos, Avenida de la Asunción, and Rambla de Santa Cruz. Heading south, routes will take you through the Ramblas, Avenida de la Asunción, and Reyes Católicos.
Filming of Bajo el Volcán 2 in Santa Cruz
According to the Mobility Department, the filming of the feature film “Bajo el Volcán 2” will result in the closure of Calvo Sotelo Street (near Pub Enroque at number 5) between Santiago Cuadrado Street and Rambla de Santa Cruz. This closure will last a maximum of 8 hours (overnight), commencing at 19:00 on Monday and concluding at 04:00 on 23 November 2025, with vehicles diverted via adjacent routes (Fernando Primo de Rivera or De Los Sueños Streets).
Similarly, Emilio Calzadilla Street will be closed between Plaza del Patriotismo (with San Juan Bautista and Suárez Guerra Street) for a maximum of 2 hours (overnight). This closure will begin at 22:00 and end at midnight on 23 September, prohibiting vehicles from passing through this section and diverting them onto adjacent roads.
With regard to parking restrictions, on Calvo Sotelo Street, parking spots along both sides between Santiago Cuadrado Street and Rambla de Santa Cruz will be suspended for 170 metres, from 16:00 on 22 September until 08:00 the following day.
