Tragic End to Virgen de Los Dolores Festival in Mancha Blanca as 84-Year-Old Man Dies Following Cardiac Arrest

This year’s festival, held with notable success in the village of Mancha Blanca, Tinajo, in honour of the Virgin of Sorrows, ended in tragedy. According to confirmation from the Lanzarote Consortium for Security and Emergencies, an 84-year-old man passed away while at one of the stalls during the fair due to a cardiac arrest.

Incident Details

The man, who was from Arrecife, fell ill around 6:40 PM, collapsing at the location where he was situated. Witnesses reported that his collapse may have been due to a possible choking incident. Emergency services present at the scene immediately attempted to resuscitate him, as he exhibited all the symptoms of a cardiac arrest.

Emergency Response

Unfortunately, they were ultimately unable to save his life. In response to the incident, local police from Tinajo, the Canary Police, and firefighters from the Consortium also arrived at the scene due to the ensuing commotion.

Continuing the Celebration

After the death was confirmed, and following the explicit wishes of the deceased’s family, the remaining festivities in Mancha Blanca continued, as confirmed by the local mayor, Jesús Machín, with the exception of the fireworks display.
