Basketball players from Tinajo have paid tribute to coach Pablo Brieba following his recent passing in Lanzarote. The young man, who was around 30 years old, lost his life in Los Charcones, in Playa Blanca, this past Sunday.
Brieba was a player, coach, and a cherished figure at the Tizziri Tinajo Basketball Club. Attendees bounced basketballs continuously for one minute on the ground of the Plaza de San Roque.
A video shared by the Tinajo Town Hall on social media showed that the organisers of the tribute stated this sound was Brieba’s favourite.
At the end of the minute of bouncing the balls against the cobblestones of the plaza, the attendees observed a minute of silence and then applauded in his honour.
The council has thanked the island’s basketball community for this gesture to farewell Pablo. “Pablo leaves a significant void and a lasting legacy in the municipality of Tinajo,” they added.
