The spokesperson for the Popular Party in Tuineje, Esther Hernández, has requested the Insular Directorate to ensure that the Guardia Civil barracks in Gran Tarajal operates 24 hours a day. This aim is to improve service for residents and enhance security in the municipality. The PP of Tuineje calls for 24-hour opening of the Guardia Civil barracks in Gran Tarajal
This request follows an announcement made yesterday by Minister Ángel Víctor Torres, who confirmed that Fuerteventura will receive 30 new Guardia Civil officers to strengthen public safety on the island. According to the latest data from the Ministry of the Interior, crime rates in Fuerteventura have risen by 11.39%, highlighting the urgency of this demand.
Esther Hernández pointed out that Tuineje has endured years of having the Guardia Civil barracks open only during morning hours, forcing residents to wait until the next day or travel to another municipality to file a report outside of those hours. “This is an unsustainable situation for a population that deserves basic, continuous, and effective security services,” she asserted.
Furthermore, she has condemned the fact that currently, only one Guardia Civil patrol covers both Pájara and Tuineje, a situation she described as “a genuine travesty.” Hernández reminded that this demand was raised during her tenure as mayor of Tuineje and also while she was a senator. “We have been warning about a situation that remains unresolved despite being a real necessity,” she added. “Now, as the opposition, we continue to demand action in the absence of a local government from CC and PSOE in the council, which is neither here nor expected.”
From the Popular Party of Tuineje, there is a call to the Ministry of the Interior to reorganise the announced human resources to ensure not only permanent service at the Gran Tarajal barracks but also the assignment of an exclusive patrol for Tuineje, thereby responding to a legitimate and repeated demand from the residents of the municipality.
