The National Distance Education University (UNED) has announced that the UNED Senior courses will commence on 1st October, marking the 13th edition in Lanzarote. According to the information provided in the press release, UNED Senior is aimed at individuals aged 55 and above, regardless of their academic background, who are interested in enhancing their knowledge. The primary objectives are to offer training on topics relevant to those over 55, improve their quality of life, provide knowledge, learning, and strategies for comprehensive personal development and autonomy, promote communication through interpersonal relationships and intergenerational encounters, and furnish all necessary elements for a better understanding of the cultural environment.
This year, five programmes have been designed to meet the demands of current and prospective students.
First Semester (October 2025 – January 2026)
The History of Art through Cities and their Museums. Edition 0
Art and its various manifestations are increasingly present in our daily lives. We travel and visit museums, we are interested in architecture, and we enjoy literature and cinema. Throughout history, art has shed its mystical aura, becoming accessible to all. But are we truly prepared to embrace the experience that art offers us?
This subject aims to approach art in an enjoyable, educational, and original yet rigorous manner through the works of various international artists.
The History of Art through Cities and their Museums VIII
This course proposes a journey through the History of Art, focusing on the most significant museums and cities. The objective is for students to identify, interpret, and relate works, stages, or artistic styles, without merely being passive spectators.
Second Semester (February – May 2026)
Dramatisation and Theatrical Creativity IV: Shakespearean Characters… Fiercely Human.
After three years of theatrical experience with senior students, which demands high personal performance from both the teacher and participants, the proposal for the 2025/26 academic year will focus on exploring the souls of various Shakespearean characters. Shakespeare, or whoever authored the body of work attributed to that name, is a cornerstone of humanist mythology. His works continually reflect ideas that, from a contemporary viewer’s perspective, can undoubtedly seem retrograde, sexist, and racist. However, his mode of reflection dismantles all prejudice, reaching the very core of the human condition.
The World of Music VI
Musical listening is the central pillar of this subject. Throughout the course, students will delve into the study and analysis of the various components that constitute a work, while exploring the vast legacy of classical music. The aim is to cultivate a habit of attentive and conscious listening through representative musical excerpts from different styles and recognising and distinguishing, through listening, the essential elements that make up music (melody, harmony, instrumentation, texture, form, etc.).
History in Cinema II
This programme aims to ignite interest in significant events and milestones in Human History and the History of Spain through audiovisual and cinematic materials. It will broadly cover the social, economic, religious, and political evolution of the periods under study, encouraging attendees to understand history from a visual and cinematic perspective rather than relying solely on memorisation.
