The Social Welfare Area of the La Laguna Town Council has successfully concluded the urban summer camps that took place during July and August in Taco, La Cuesta, Casco, and Tejina. This initiative, aimed at children aged 6 to 12 years, brought together dozens of participants in a friendly environment that combined learning, fun, and a commitment to the surroundings.

The Councillor for Social Welfare, María Cruz, emphasised that “these camps are an opportunity for our young people to grow in environments of learning and fun, reinforcing essential values such as environmental care, community living, and solidarity. The Town Council continues to work towards providing resources that not only facilitate family reconciliation but also ensure educational and recreational experiences that contribute to the overall well-being of the children in La Laguna.”

Engaging Activities

Among the activities, the children participated in educational leisure workshops focused on recycling, sustainability, and nature conservation. Additionally, they undertook three excursions that allowed them to enjoy natural settings, promoting healthy lifestyle habits, direct contact with the environment, and strengthening community ties.

Community Impact

The entity responsible for organising the events was Campamento Garabato, which also undertook improvement actions in the educational centres where the camps were held, thus leaving a positive impact on the community. Specifically, they worked in the San Luis Gonzaga, Las Mantecas, La Verdellada, and San Bartolomé de Tejina primary and infant schools.

These camps align with the objectives of the II Municipal Plan for Childhood and Adolescence in La Laguna, promoted by the Childhood and Family Unit of the Social Welfare Department. The initiative responds to strategic guidelines related to promoting healthy leisure activities, encouraging children’s participation, and enhancing activities that contribute to the holistic development of childhood in the municipality.

Commitment to Families

“With this edition, the La Laguna Town Council reaffirms its commitment to families, ensuring resources that facilitate work-life balance while promoting educational experiences that instill values of respect, sustainability, and community living,” stated María Cruz.

“Proposals such as this or the seven-day camping programme for ages 12 to 14, which took place in July this year at Finca Don Leandro with great success, are solidifying as a key tool in continuing to build a child-friendly city where the voice and well-being of the youngest residents occupy a priority place in municipal action,” concluded the councillor.
