The iconic Plaza de La Pescadora and the Muelle Viejo de Los Cristianos will become the epicentre of the fishing culture in the municipality with the celebration of the 11th edition of the Fish Fair. This maritime festival, organised by the Department of Economic Promotion, Primary Sector, and Employment of the Arona City Council, is one of the key events in the festive and gastronomic calendar of southern Tenerife.
With a programme designed for the entire family, the fair will pay tribute to the legacy of the men and women of the sea, highlighting the work of the Brotherhood of Fishermen of Our Lady of Mercedes and the vital role of artisanal fishing in Arona’s history.
The day will kick off at 17:00 in the Plaza de La Pescadora with the opening of the exhibition ‘Fish Fair 2025’, alongside children’s themed workshops hosted by the PFAE-GJ programme and live musical performances. Notable acts include the group ‘Índice y Medio’ and a soloists’ show accompanied by the group ‘Los Majuelos’. The most emotional moment will arrive at 20:30 with a well-deserved tribute to the municipality’s fishermen.
Simultaneously, at the Muelle Viejo, from 19:00, renowned Michelin-starred chef Diego Schattenhofer will lead a showcooking event alongside local fishermen and young people stepping into the sector, culminating in a tasting of traditional maritime recipes from 21:00.
The Mayor of Arona, Fátima Lemes Reverón, has emphasised the significance of this event, stating that it “not only celebrates our maritime tradition but also values the effort and dedication of entire generations who have made a living from the sea. It is a source of pride to see how Arona keeps its identity alive, promoting generational change and valuing traditional fishing and the work of those dedicated to the sea.”
Meanwhile, the Councillor for Economic Promotion, Primary Sector, and Employment, Melania Santos, has highlighted the cultural and participatory dimensions of the event, aiming for “the fair to be a space for interaction between residents and visitors, showcasing the best of our sea and providing a place to share fishing culture, local gastronomy, and traditional music in a family-friendly and festive atmosphere.”
The Fish Fair 2025 thus solidifies its status as an unmissable event for residents, tourists, and sea enthusiasts, featuring a diverse programme that combines history, flavour, and tradition.
