This Friday, 29th August, the southern town of Yaiza will commence its festivities in honour of the Virgin of Los Remedios. The celebrations will kick off with the reading of the proclamation at 20:00 in the Casa de la Cultura, performed by the González Hernández siblings, Juana and Enrique. This family is affectionately known as ‘the Post Office family’ due to their long-standing connection with the town’s postal service. Additionally, the Rubicón Folkloric Group will present their festival at 21:00 in the Plaza de Remedios. This event will feature singing, dancing, tradition, and poetry, and this year will welcome the Los Dóniz Folkloric Group from Valle de la Orotava, Tenerife. The Mayor, Óscar Noda, encourages the people of Lanzarote to participate by consulting the detailed programme at www.yaiza.es.
The Cori Concert: A Special Finale
“We have an action-packed first weekend of festivities ahead, where friendship and joy will reign. Yaiza, as a welcoming town, invites residents and visitors of Lanzarote to join in the Remedios celebrations. Together with the Festival Committee, we have prepared an exciting programme of activities. On 8th September, the Great Day of Yaiza, we will feature Coti and his band, an international artist who is touring Europe and will land in Yaiza for the grand finale of the festivities,” said the councillor for Celebrations, Daniel Medina.
Pilgrimage on Saturday, 30th August
Saturday, 30th August, will also be a vibrant day. In the morning, there will be a children’s event with surprises and a foam party. Then, in the afternoon at 18:00, the traditional pilgrimage and offering to the Patroness will take place, featuring music and dance groups alongside decorated animal-drawn carts. The meeting point is at the car park of the Yaiza football pitch.
On Sunday, 31st August, another children’s party is scheduled for midday, followed by a couples’ gymkhana at 17:00 in the plaza. Later, the artistry will move to the church of Remedios for a sacred music recital featuring the Yaiza Vocal Group and a Sacred Music Trio. The evening will bring laughter as Carmen and Chano take to the stage at 20:30, promising an entertaining show filled with humour.
