The municipal plenary session of Yaiza has initially approved modifications to the waste collection fee ordinance, updating charges to reflect the actual costs of the service in compliance with Law 7/2022.
Residential properties will see their annual fee increase from €23.80 to €59 beginning in 2026. Meanwhile, holiday homes will now be classified as a separate category: a base fee of €59 for up to two guests, with an additional €15 for each extra guest. Hotels will be taxed based on their star rating, number of beds, and location.

The Mayor, Óscar Noda, defended that “the fee in Yaiza remains the lowest in Lanzarote” and highlighted available options such as discounts for direct debit and the new Customised Payment Plan.
An “unjust and disproportionate” increase, according to CC
The CC group in Yaiza condemned the increase, which is estimated at 152% for residential properties, claiming it “hits families and small businesses without social sensitivity or compensatory measures.”
Its spokesperson, Emilio Machín, called for a specific plan to reduce waste and fees that are adjusted to the economic capacity of each sector.
