Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote Completes Positive Preseason Ahead of Liga Guerreras Iberdrola Debut

The Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote concluded its participation in the Government of the Canary Islands Cup with a positive outcome and satisfaction at having demonstrated a solid team, well-prepared and nearly polished for the start of the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola.

Strong Start and Solid Performance

In their first match, the team from San Bartolomé decisively defeated Cicar Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife with a score of 21-31. After a closely contested first half, Zonzamas produced a dominant second half, scoring 19 goals. Their performance was notable for its ferocity, defensive intensity, and sharp offensive strikes. Goalkeeper Valentina Menucci was formidable in goal, while Pauli Fernández excelled in attack, orchestrating plays and consistently outpacing the opposing defence.

Cicar, still finding its rhythm in their first pre-season match, displayed moments of quality, particularly in long-range shooting, but struggled to maintain competitive pace.

Challenge Against Rocasa Gran Canaria

In their second fixture against Rocasa Gran Canaria, a top-tier team, Zonzamas put forth an impressive performance despite losing 22-25. The match was tightly contested, characterised by strong defensive play and frequent exchanges. Rocasa edged into halftime with a slight advantage (11-12), but the Lanzarote team came out strong after the break, even taking the lead for several minutes thanks to an almost impenetrable defence.

In this match, goalkeeper Alicia Robles kept the team afloat with standout saves, maintaining order until the Gran Canaria side resorted to a 7 against 6 attack with an empty net, regaining control and sealing the victory in the closing moments.

Looking Ahead

With this match, Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote wraps up an intense pre-season, having played five matches in a short period. Coach Juanmi Pérez expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance. “The team is ready to compete, and we’ll approach the first game with that mindset, knowing that every point is crucial for achieving our goal of staying in the league,” he stated.

He also noted the team’s physical commitment and development. “After a very intense pre-season with numerous training sessions and physical loads, the team has been very compact, serious, and in excellent physical condition. Various strategies have been tested in both attack and defence, and now it’s time to fine-tune details and make adjustments ahead of the league debut,” he added.

The official debut will take place on Saturday, 30 August, against Mecalia Atlético Guardés, the reigning champions of the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola regular phase. The match will be held at Ciudad Deportiva Lanzarote, due to ongoing works at the Municipal Pavilion, starting at 20:00 hours. This is expected to be one of the most challenging matches on the calendar and a crucial test to gauge the strength of the Lanzarote team.
