The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, announced on Wednesday in Arrecife that the current Insular Hospital building will continue to serve healthcare and social care purposes in the future but will not look as it does now.
During a meeting with the President of the Lanzarote Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, and Vice President María Jesús Tovar, Clavijo discussed various issues, including housing, urban planning, water, tourism, and healthcare.
He noted that the existing building housing Lanzarote’s geriatric centre needs improvements. “We must adapt it to the future needs of the population and ensure the highest possible quality of care,” he stressed.
Clavijo emphasised the urgency of addressing the situation, stating, “We cannot have a building propped up and simply look the other way.” He affirmed that the changes will involve collaboration with professionals, patients, and local institutions.
