Pomodoro & Mozzarella: A Rising Star in Italian Cuisine in Las Palmas
Pomodoro & Mozzarella in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is quietly establishing itself as a premier destination for Italian food, particularly known for its pizzas. The restaurant, led by Riccardo Borello from Calabria and local pizzaiolo Antonio Cazorla, blends traditional Neapolitan cuisine with a modern twist.
Cazorla recently cemented his reputation by winning the title of Best Neapolitan Pizza at the Gastro Canarias 2026 competition, an accolade he also claimed the previous year. His pizzas are celebrated for their authentic dough, and he also received an award for Best Presentation at the event.
The restaurant prides itself on a genuine Italian experience without unnecessary fusion or overly simplified flavours. Its standout pizza, La Campionessa, showcases slow-fermented dough with airy crust and top-quality ingredients, embodying what Neapolitan pizza should be.
Other notable selections include the award-winning Regina 2025, featuring a delightful blend of cheese, guanciale, and almonds, and the Costa di Amalfi, topped with a mix of tomatoes, fior di latte, and anchovies. The Carbonara pizza also pays homage to Roman flavours, presenting crispy guanciale and pecorino.
Beyond pizzas, the pasta dishes are equally impressive. The Carbonara, made without cream, remains faithful to its Roman roots, and the Tagliatelle alla Coda alla Vaccinara is a unique offering featuring slow-cooked oxtail, striking the perfect balance of flavours.
For dessert, the tiramisù—both classic and pistachio variations—delights with its well-soaked sponge and balanced flavours. The crema bruciata offers a simple yet elegant finish to the meal.
Pomodoro & Mozzarella, located at 6-B Calle Triana, is one of the most respected Italian restaurants in the city, with an inviting price range of £30 to £45 per person for a full meal. Open daily except Tuesdays, it’s a place worth revisiting, with many more dishes to explore. Follow them on Instagram at @pomodoroe mozzarella.
