The Mayor of Antigua Facing Censure Explains That He and His Party Will “Constructively Oppose” and Present a Candidacy in the Upcoming Elections
Matías Peña, the Mayor of Antigua, stated in an interview on Fuerteventura Televisión that following the evening meeting of AlxAn on Tuesday, they have solidified their decision to “work on presenting a candidacy in 2027”.
Peña, who is facing a motion of censure put forth by the PP, CC, AMF, and Contigo Fuerteventura, expressed pride in the work accomplished and acknowledged that “although it pains us how the motion has been presented, the numbers are the numbers, and in this respect, the motion has them.”
“It is true that the reasons do not seem valid to me, but I have not called anyone for explanations; each one knows what they are doing.”
The mayor and the councillors reviewed their legislative term in various areas, all expressing their willingness to “continue the assigned work, whether from the opposition or wherever the residents position us in the next election on the 27th.”
Political Reasons
Regarding the motion in Antigua, Peña argued that both his departure from the Cabildo and the motion are due to the rapprochement occurring between AlxAn and the PSOE ahead of the municipal and regional elections in 2027.
