Dolores Corujo Summoned for Testimony
The former president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and current congresswoman Dolores Corujo (PSOE) has been called to testify on Wednesday morning as a witness following a complaint filed by David Monte (Coalición Canaria), the island director of Cabildo de Lanzarote Presidency, with the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
After hearing the testimony of David Monte and reviewing the accompanying documentation, the prosecutor for Administrative Crimes in Arrecife, Fernando Rodríguez Navarro, has decided to suspend Dolores Corujo’s testimony and change her status from witness to suspect, allowing her to be assisted by a solicitor during her statement.
Current State of the Investigation
Sources from the Public Prosecutor’s Office have informed La Voz that the investigation is still in a “pre-procedural” phase. They emphasised that it is premature to discuss “indictment” or “investigation.” For the time being, the actions currently being undertaken aim to clarify whether there are indications of a crime. In order to protect the rights of the former president, it has been decided that she will testify as a suspect with legal assistance.
Consequently, the Public Prosecutor’s Office is processing pre-procedural investigation actions. This indicates that no formal procedure has yet been initiated in the courts; rather, the prosecutor’s office is conducting the necessary inquiries.
Allegations Involving Corujo’s Administration
The alleged criminal activities brought to the attention of the prosecutor by the representative of the Cabildo of Lanzarote relate to decisions made during Dolores Corujo’s administration concerning Councillor Juan Manuel Sosa. David Monte suggests that these could involve a potential crime of prevarication.
In response, Dolores Corujo claims that this investigation constitutes a “malicious use of the prosecutor’s office by Coalición Canaria.”
