Morro Jable Health Centre to be Re-tendered for Renovations
Asamblea Majorera – Coalición Canaria Fuerteventura has announced the new tender for renovations at Morro Jable Health Centre, following the first call for bids failing to attract interest. The Canarian Health Service will oversee the work, which is budgeted at over €225,000 and is expected to be completed in four months.
The nationalist party stated that this initiative is part of the commitments made by the Canarian Government to enhance healthcare services, fulfilling a promise to the local community.
“We are continuing to develop the healthcare network across Fuerteventura, with projects planned in every municipality of the island, as presented last December during the approval of the Regional Budgets,” said a spokesperson from AM-CC.
This refurbishment is alongside other health initiatives, such as the introduction of a medical helicopter, a future Centre for Specialised Care in La Lajita, and renovations to the Corralejo II Health Centre.
The party emphasised that these works respond to long-standing requests from Fuerteventura’s residents for improved healthcare infrastructure, essential to ensure quality medical attention throughout the island.
The newly introduced medical helicopter has significantly enhanced the healthcare response across Fuerteventura, reducing emergency response times.
Morro Jable Health Centre is part of the Jandía Basic Health Zone, which also includes Esquinzo, Mal Hombre, Piedras Caídas, Punta Jandía, Solana del Matorral, and Costa Calma, serving a population of 17,470 residents.
The current tender addresses renovations such as façade refurbishment, updating evacuation signage, modifying an ambulance dorm area, and adding a pergola for parking.
This initiative aims to meet the demands of the Health Area of Fuerteventura, addressing increased population needs in the area.
The Health Department has adjusted the project’s budget from €186,000 to €225,000 following the previous tender’s failure in 2024.
