A one-year-old British girl has died after suffering serious injuries from a drowning incident in a hotel pool in Lajares, La Oliva. She had been in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Materno Infantil University Hospital in Gran Canaria for a week.
According to the ‘Canarias, 1500 Km de Costa’ association, despite extensive medical efforts, the child could not overcome her severe injuries from the incident.
The tragedy occurred on June 15, just before 9 a.m., when she was found floating in the pool and unresponsive. Paramedics from the Canarian Emergency Service managed to revive her on-site, but due to the severity of her condition, she was airlifted to Gran Canaria for specialised treatment.
The association extended its condolences to her family and highlighted the critical need for constant supervision of children around water to prevent such accidents.
