Second Inclusive Summer Camps Launched in Tenerife
Tenerife’s Cabildo, through the Social and Socio-Health Care Institute (IASS), is hosting its second set of Inclusive Summer Camps aimed at integrating children with disabilities. The camps will take place throughout July and August.
At the launch event in the Cabildo’s Noble Hall, Águeda Fumero, the Social Affairs Councillor and IASS President, was joined by Carmen Delia Álamo from the Fundación Hospitalarias, Juan Antonio Arroyo of Aspronte, Lucía V. Gracia Rocha from Orobal, and María de Jesús López representing AFANES.
This initiative involves hundreds of young participants and offers specialised activities and support for children and teens with various needs. It provides a platform for neurotypical individuals and those with intellectual disabilities to engage in workshops and activities alongside trained professionals.
Fumero stated, “This project is an opportunity for people with different disabilities to connect with one another and with neurotypical individuals, helping families achieve better work-life balance during these months.” She expressed gratitude to the partner organisations that made the camps possible.
Funded by the IASS with a budget of €180,000, the project supports voluntary entities in managing and organising the camps. Fumero added, “These camps help foster a society that generates opportunities for everyone. Inclusion must be the norm, not the exception.”
In addition to the summer camps, the IASS, along with Sinpromi and Ideco, continues to promote similar initiatives throughout the year, partnering with the Fundación CB Canarias to reach a broader audience with diverse abilities.
