Man Arrested for Drug-Related Offences in Arrecife
Officers from the Citizen Attention Operational Group (GOAC) of the Local Police in Arrecife arrested a 50-year-old man on Thursday morning for allegedly disobeying and resisting the authorities after he attempted to flee during a police intervention.
The incident occurred when a patrol noticed a vehicle whose driver raised the officers’ suspicions due to a strong smell consistent with narcotic substances coming from inside the car.
According to the Local Police, the officers signalled for the vehicle to stop, but the driver initially ignored the request and continued for several metres before finally halting.
Once stationary, when the officers requested his personal documentation, the man attempted to flee on foot. The police immediately began a chase that ended approximately 50 metres later, where they managed to intercept him.
During the operation, the individual displayed active resistance, refusing to cooperate and obstructing the police efforts until he was eventually subdued.
During a subsequent superficial search, the officers found several bags containing narcotic substances, which were confiscated. Additionally, a formal record was made for drug possession.
Furthermore, the driver was administratively charged after testing positive in a drug detection test.
The detainee was taken to police premises for the necessary procedures and was later made available to the judiciary.
The Local Police in Arrecife emphasises its commitment to combating the small-scale trafficking and distribution of narcotic substances, particularly in areas where such activities are more prevalent, aiming to limit access and prevent easy availability to the youth in the municipality.
