Prosecution Seeks Maximum Sentence for Woman’s Disappearance in Gran Canaria
The prosecutor for Violence Against Women in Las Palmas has formally charged Miguel Ángel Ramos Quesada, the partner of Juana Ramos, as the alleged perpetrator of her death and disappearance on the night of 20 August 2016 in Gran Canaria. The prosecution is seeking a 17-year prison sentence, according to judicial sources confirmed to EFE.
Charges Overview
In the indictment, which was revealed by Canarias7, prosecutor Jesús Javier Lomba accuses Ramos Quesada of homicide, demanding the maximum penalty of 15 years in prison, despite the fact that Juana Ramos’s body has not been found. Additionally, he is charged with a crime against moral integrity, for which the prosecutor is seeking two years of imprisonment. Miguel Ángel Ramos will be tried by a jury.
The indictment states that Ramos allegedly “voluntarily” killed Juana and subsequently concealed her body in an effort to hide the crime and impede the investigation.
The Incident
According to the prosecutor’s preliminary report, on the night of 20 August 2016, Miguel Ángel Ramos collected Juana Ramos from her home in La Paterna, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and the two left the capital heading towards Arucas in a Renault Kangoo van.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office maintains that at some point during that journey or in the following hours, the defendant “ended the woman’s life,” although the exact location and manner of her death remain undetermined.
