Tragic Incident Claims Life of Fisherman in Arucas
A fisherman tragically lost his life on Friday in Arucas, Gran Canaria, after falling into the sea near a cliff area, according to reports from the 1-1-2 emergency services in the Canary Islands.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred at 08:47 when the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) 1-1-2 received an alert about the fall of a fisherman in the region known as Punta del Caletón.
Rescue operations were launched, with firefighters dispatched to the scene. They managed to reach the victim approximately 400 metres from the coast. Shortly thereafter, a helicopter from Maritime Rescue arrived to facilitate his evacuation to the heliport of the Doctor Negrín University Hospital in Gran Canaria.
Aftermath and Emergency Response
Upon landing, medical personnel from the SUC confirmed the man’s death.
The operation saw collaboration from both the Civil Guard and the Local Police, enhancing the emergency response efforts.
