Haría Mayor Hails Improved Water Supply Amid Ongoing Political Tensions
Alfredo Villalba, the Mayor of Haría, has welcomed recent improvements in the water supply for the municipality, following efforts by the Cabildo to ensure a more stable flow of water to the areas of Haría, Guinate, and Máguez. Speaking on Crónicas Radio’s “A Buena Hora,” Villalba expressed relief that water shortages have not been an issue for the last two to three weeks, but he questioned why these measures were not implemented sooner.
Villalba pointed out that residents had endured consistent water cuts for nearly three years and expressed frustration with previous management. He noted that, since the Cabildo took over the water service, there have been marked improvements. However, the Mayor stressed that not all areas in Haría are consistently receiving water, with some still facing interruptions.
The Mayor also commented on recent tensions between local political groups, specifically between Compromiso Por Haría (CXH) and the Plataforma del Municipio de Haría (PMH). He refrained from participating in the ongoing disputes, opting to focus on managing the municipality’s pressing issues instead. He acknowledged that allegations of illegal activities and potential lawsuits within these factions are serious but stated that his priority is the stability and progress of Haría.
Villalba dismissed distractions from political conflicts, insisting that the municipality needed to move forward after years of being dominated by negative news. He hinted at unresolved issues with the local water consortium, criticising outdated regulations that limit the municipalities’ decision-making power.
Despite the recent improvements, Villalba maintained that ongoing vigilance is necessary to ensure continued access to water and that he would support changes to the joint operating statutes of the water consortium to better reflect the needs of local councils.
In the face of these challenges, Villalba remains committed to addressing the fundamental needs of Haría and hopes for a more constructive relationship with the Cabildo moving forward.
