Residents of La Gomera will receive a fuel subsidy of 20p per litre from 1 July to the end of September, according to the Canary Islands’ Treasury Department. For El Hierro and La Palma, the discount is set at 15p per litre, while no subsidy will be available for Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
The funding for these subsidies is included in the regional budget for 2026. The adjustments each quarter aim to reflect the specific realities and additional costs faced by each island.
To determine the subsidy amounts, the government considered the fuel price differences between non-capital islands and Gran Canaria and Tenerife from 1 April to 15 June. If the price of 95-octane petrol or diesel on a non-capital island exceeds the average price in the capital islands by 5p or more, the subsidy is activated. The amount can range from 5p to 30p per litre, depending on the price differentials observed during the previous period.
