Tribute to a Fuerteventura Communication Pioneer

Santiago Travieso Quintana, the late founder and director of Radio Sintonía, will posthumously receive a Special Mention at the 2026 Fuerteventura Tourism Awards. He is honoured for over 40 years of dedicated service covering the tourism sector while passionately enjoying his role as a journalist.

Through Radio Sintonía, Travieso brought significant events to the island’s homes, including major tourism exhibitions like Fitur in Madrid, the World Travel Market in London, and ITB in Berlin.

His contribution extends beyond tourism; he was a vital source of daily news for the residents of Fuerteventura. One highlight was his long-running programme simply named “Turismo,” which brought together professionals from various fields each week.

The Fuerteventura Cabildo has described him as a key journalistic figure on the island. Having arrived in 1987, he founded Radio Sintonía in 1995. His reporting spanned political and economic news while capturing the unique spirit of the locals.
