A vessel carrying 60 individuals was intercepted by Maritime Rescue in the early hours of Monday, June 15, and subsequently transported to the island, according to information from the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium.
The operation took place at 02:20 hours when the occupants of the vessel were assisted by the rescue teams. According to information provided by emergency services, all individuals found appeared to be in good health upon arrival.
The arrival of the occupants of this vessel, who were to receive assistance from humanitarian services provided by the Red Cross at Puerto Naos, occurred just hours after another rescue operation on Sunday. In that instance, Maritime Rescue located a boat approximately 64 kilometres east of Lanzarote with 77 individuals onboard, including several women and minors, who were also transported to Puerto Naos in Arrecife.
That vessel had departed from the Moroccan coast of Tan-Tan and was located thanks to a coordinated operation from the control centre in Las Palmas, with the assistance of a merchant vessel that monitored the craft until the arrival of the Salvamar Acrux.
With these two consecutive operations, at least 137 individuals have been rescued or assisted in waters close to Lanzarote within 24 hours.
