Tenerife Museums and IPNA-CSIC Prepare ‘Smell to Believe’, a Scientific Exhibition on Olfaction
The exhibition will open on 26 June at the Museo de la Ciencia y el Cosmos in Tenerife and will run for one year
‘Smell to Believe’ is designed as a scientific journey through olfaction, featuring contributions from specialists across various fields
Tenerife Museums and the Institute of Natural Products and Agrobiology (IPNA-CSIC) are finalising preparations for Smell to Believe, a temporary exhibition dedicated to the sense of smell that will open on 26 June at the Museum of Science and the Cosmos.
The exhibition will tackle the topic of olfaction from a multidisciplinary scientific perspective. It will explore chemical, physiological, historical, medical, and anthropological aspects related to one of the most significant, yet least understood senses by the general public.
Designed as an immersive and interactive experience, the exhibition will allow visitors to discover how smells are perceived, their historical significance, their influence on emotions and memories, and their applications across diverse fields including health, food, perfumery, and advertising, to name a few.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until 30 June 2027. It is organised by IPNA-CSIC and Tenerife Museums, an institution under the Tenerife Cabildo, with support from the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology – Ministry of Science and Innovation and the Government of the Canary Islands. Participating entities also include the University of La Laguna, Biosigma, Ecobertura, Casa del Perfume Canario, Lyturgya, the Academy of Perfume Foundation, the Spanish Association of Anosmia, and Olfatorium.
Further information regarding the exhibition hours and access to Smell to Believe will be released shortly by the involved institutions through their websites and social media.
